Solar power charging with external meter support: Spelsberg

Solar power charging with external meter support

With "Solar power charging with external meter support", an external meter is used in the distribution system so that it always determines the current PV surplus that would be fed into the grid. Through communication between the meter and the wallbox, the dynamic surplus values are transmitted to the wallbox in real time. The available solar power can therefore be optimally utilised by the wallbox for charging EVs.

If an external, compatible meter is already used upstream of the PV generation system or the inverter communicates via SunSpec, there is no need to integrate an additional meter. Although this does not correspond to exclusive solar power charging (as the current consumption in the household is not taken into account), the charging process has a high proportion of solar power with little effort involved to upgrade the installation. Further information on this can be found on the Solar power charging by connecting to inverters with SunSpec page.

Parameter configuration

There are two options for connecting an external meter to the Spelsberg Wallbox: a direct connection or a network connection. Either the meter is connected directly to the wallbox via a LAN cable or the meter and the wallbox are located in the same network with a router with an active DHCP server. More information on network integration can be found here Network integration.

To do this, open the Spelsberg Wallbox app and go to System and then to Settings. Next click System integration, and then Active charging current control and follow the instructions in the app. The following parameters must be set:

Setting

External meter

Selection of the meter positioned at the home connection point. Only Siemens PAC 2200 and the TQ EM420 are currently supported.

IP address of the external Modbus TCP meter

Input of the external meter's IP address
(Note: The meter must be assigned a static IP address in the network so that it never changes, even with DHCP assignment)

Port of the external Modbus TCP meter

Charging mode

Selection:
- Maximum output:
The vehicle is charged as quickly as possible at 11 kW.

- PV/mains charging:
PV charging from approx. 4.1 to 11 kW If the minimum charging power is not reached, the charging process is automatically continued with mains power.

- PV/mains charging+ (only with phase disconnection, from wallbox software version 5.33.1) upwards:
PV charging from 1.4 to 11 kW If the minimum charging power is not reached, the charging process is continued with mains power. Activation of the automatic phase disconnection is required.

- Solar charging+ (only with phase disconnection, from wallbox software version 5.33.1) upwards:
Charging is exclusively with PV power, without mains power. If the minimum charging power is not reached, the charging process is paused. Activation of the automatic phase disconnection is required.

After completing the parameterisation, click Apply and transfer the settings to the Spelsberg Wallbox via NFC or network communication.
